Cross-domain Metaphor on Phonetic Level

Analyzing from phonetic level,we may find there are plenty of homophones in nearly all the languages,which provides phonetic condition for the forming of phonetic metaphor mainly in the form of homophonic puns. Phonetic metaphor is a cross- domain mapping happening in the conceptual system which is generated by different signified by means of the identical or similar sound elements of the signifiers. From the perspective of cognitive metaphor,this paper attempts to interpret cross- domain metaphor on phonetic level.
