Service-oriented Naming Scheme for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Wireless ad hoc networks are created by mobile devices that contact each other while on the move. Within an ad hoc wireless network, a name service that allows nodes to discover services and resources is essential. This paper introduces a service-oriented attribute-based naming system for ad hoc wireless networks. An attribute-based name has the power of expressing the capabilities and current state of a service or resource of a node. The discovery process is governed by what the initiator wants and not by a location. All levels of indirection imposed by binding names to IPs are eliminated. The name system we propose is expressive, responsive and robust.
