Exploring visualisations through subspace composition

The paper presents a method for exploring visualisations of complex data by considering them as compositions of smaller, simpler structural elements. Subspaces of data are mapped into simple visualisation constructs that each represent a number of well-defined tasks on the data. The visualisation elements and their associations form a map that is used to assist navigation through the data space. The approach is illustrated by a number of examples that visualise complex data sets.
