DTC of B4 Inverter Fed Two-Phase IM Drives

This paper presents an advanced direct torque control (DTC) of symmetrical two-phase induction motor (2PIM) associated to two-leg voltage source inverter (B4 inverter). The developed DTC strategy provides the possibility to emulate the classical DTC of three-phase induction motor (3PIM) fed by three-leg voltage source inverter (B6 inverter). The proposed control scheme allows, through the application of suitable combinations of two or three intrinsic vectors generated by the B4 inverter, a remarkable reduction of current distortion and torque ripple. Several differences between the developed DTC control scheme and the earlier ones are discussed. Simulation results confirm the feasibility and the high performance of the proposed DTC strategy, which make the B4 inverterfed 2PIM drives very attractive in large- scale production industries such as the automotive one.
