On Absorbing Markov Chains and Optimum Batch Production Quantities

Abstract Absorbing Markov chains are suggested as models for particular types of production processes. Results are derived yielding the expected value and variance for resource consumed by the process. These results are then employed in the development of a batch production quantity model. Using finite differences, sufficient conditions are obtained for the optimum batch production quantity. An example problem illustrates the suggested solution procedure.
