Impact of probability risk assessment on containment

Abstract The structural reliability analysis of containments as contributing factors to risk analyses of nuclear power plants is presented. In this context probabilistic models for the occurrence and effects of potential internal loading conditions (i.e. LOCA) as well as external loads (i.e. earthquake and aircraft impact) have been developed and utilized within a reliability concept. The analysis is exemplified by application to a spherical containment structure located in an area of low seismicity.
