Numerical prediction of saltation velocity for gas-solid two-phase flow in a horizontal pipe

By a numerical simulation, the saltation velocity at which the total pressure drop per unit length along a horizontal pipe becomes a minimum for coarse particles is predicted relative to the gas velocity for a given mass flow rate of particles. The Lagrangian approach is used for the particle motion, and the presence of particles is considered as a particle source term in the Reynolds equations for gas flow. The prediction by the present simulation is quantitatively similar to measurements done by several researchers.
