Chemical Ionization of 1-Olefins (C15-C18) by CH5+, C2H5+, and C3H5+ in an Ion-Trap Type of Mass Spectrometer.

Chemical ionization of n-paraffins (CnH2n+2 : n = 14∼18) by the CH5+, C2H5+, and C3H5+ ions has been studied using an ion-trap type of GC/MS under a reactant-ion-selected mode. In all the reactions, CnH2n+1+ and CmH2m+1+ (m = 3∼n−3) ions were observed. The most favorable fragment CmH2m+1+ ion in the CH5+ reaction was m = 8, while that in the C2H5+ and C3H5+ reactions was m = n−5 or n−6.
