Attitude determination and control systems

Abstract This chapter presents hardware and mathematical techniques to be used for CubeSat attitude determination and control systems (ADCS). Hardware control systems including reaction wheels and magnetorquers are considered along with attitude determination systems including optical and magnetic sensors and inertial measurement units. Mathematical techniques and the principles of attitude control are presented as well as mathematical techniques available to interface with control ADCS hardware. Attention is paid to the most appropriate techniques suitable for satellites that are limited in size, mass, and power (electrical and fuel) available for control.
