s from CAOS-International 2001 First Annual Meeting of the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery Davos, Switzerland, February 7-10,2001* The 6th International CAOS-Symposium at the Convention Center in Davos, Switzerland, became the 1st Annual Meeting of our International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery-CAOS-International. The purpose of this nonprofit organization is to bring together those individuals throughout the world, who, by their contributions and activities in the areas of research, clinical study, and clinical use, have indicated or are indicating interest in computer assisted orthopaedic surgery. CAOS-International was founded one year ago during our last CAOS Symposium. Since then, membership has grown continuously. Today we have more than 300 founding members from all over the world, indicating the continuing attention that is being paid to this rapidly emerging area by the medical and technological communities. We would like to thank our nearly 20 sponsors from industry and related NGOs, who have given our young society a financial basis to build upon in the future. This year we received more than 120 submissions, which consolidated the result of our previous meeting. The CAOS-International Program Committee met on November 18, 2000, and based on the results of the review process, a scientific program was established comprising 48 oral and 68 poster presentations. We would like to thank our Program Committee for their assistance during the past months, and all sponsors who allowed us to set up CAOS this year. Special thanks goes to all participants, without whom the Symposium would not have become the great success that it is today. After six CAOS Meetings, this will be the last Symposium organized by the Bernese team from the Maurice E. Muller Institute. The next site-chairman will be Dr. Anthony M. DiGioia, our President-Elect, and CAOS-International 2002 will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on
