The Differential Effects of Interpersonal Justice and Injustice on Computer Abuse: A Regulatory Focus Theory Perspective

Insideremployeeshavebecomeoneofthetopsecuritythreatstoorganizations.Inordertomitigate theirdetrimentalsecuritybehaviors,itisimportanttounderstandthethoughtprocessesoftheseinsider offenders.Recentsecurityresearchhasexaminedtheroleofperceptionsofinjusticeinexplaining employeesecuritybehaviors.However,thereisapaucityofresearchinvestigatingthedifferential effectsofjusticeandinjustice.Basedonregulatoryfocustheory,thisarticleexaminestheemotional andbehavioralreactionstoperceptionsofinterpersonaljusticeandinjustice.Theresultsshowthat perceptionsofinterpersonalinjusticearemorerelevanttoemployeeexperiencesofhostilitythan perceptionsofinterpersonaljustice.Inaddition,theresultsshowthatpromotionfocusandprevention focushaveasymmetriceffectsontheroleofemotionsincomputerabuse.Theresultshaveimportant theoreticalcontributionstojusticeandsecuritybehaviorresearchandprovidecriticalguidanceto organizationalsecuritymanagement.
