AN INVENTORY OF AGRICULTURAL PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS IN LUSAKA, ZAMBIA by Alice Mutiti Mweetwa In order to fulfill the requirements for the Master of Environmental Science from the Institute of Environmental Sciences of Miami University, a practicum was completed. The practicum documents the different agricultural Persistent Organic Pollutants in use on farms in Lusaka and distributed by chemical traders. This information was collected on behalf of the Environmental Council of Zambia to be used to create the National Implementation Plan for the Stockholm Convention of 2001.The project included data collection using two different questionnaires; from samples of farms and agricultural chemical distributors located in Lusaka. The results show that the only agricultural Persistent Organic pollutant in use is Chlordane, which is primarily used for the control of termites in construction.
