Study on Fast Discharge of Superconducting Magnet Based on High Current Pulse

The conventional discharging method of superconducting magnet cannot meet the requirement of rapid discharge and also generates high peak value of overvoltage pulse between two sides of the magnet when discharge begins instantaneously,which would be a hidden problem for the safety to the magnet,so looking for some rapid and safe methods has some practical significance.Through the theoretical analysis,this paper studies the feasibility of resistive and capacitive converting circuits.Comparing with the direct discharge,the simulation results show that two different kinds of converting circuit cannot only improve the discharging rate obviously,but also restrain the overvoltage effectively.The resistive or capacitive converting circuit could make energy transfer more quickly and output current pulse higher,which provides some important references for the study on the congener discharge of superconducting magnet.
