Special Issue Article: The First International Symposium on Mine Safety Science and Engineering Mechanism research on coal and gas outburst during vibration blasting q

abstract The coal and gas outburst results from plenty of factors, while vibration is the most important factoramong them. Therefore, the influences of vibration acting on gas desorption and coal structure had beenconducted. And the mechanism of coal and gas outburst induced by vibration was illustrated throughexamples. The results showed that the gas desorption accelerates under the action of vibration, and thenthe gas gradient increases. Meanwhile, vibration would increase and expand fractures in the internal coalbody, which aggravates the risk of coal and gas outburst greatly. In conclusion, vibration is a more impor-tant factor attributable to coal and gas outburst compared with other coal mining method, mining tech-nology and construction method. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. IntroductionCoal and gas outburst has always been one of the most majordisasters that influence the coal safe production in China (Fanet al., 2007; Yu, 1978; Zang and Wang, 2007; He and Zhou, 1990;Ma and Yu, 2006; Diaz Aguado and Gonzalez Nicieza, 2007; Beam-ish and Crosdale, 1998; Valliappan and Wohua, 1999; Krzesinska,1997; Cai and Wang, 2004). Moreover, the risk of coal and gas out-burst becomes ever serious with the increasing mining depth. Andsoithasbecomeoneofthegreatestfactorsrestrainingthedevelop-ment of coal enterprises. The coal and gas outburst is a powerfuldynamicphenomenonwhereanabundanceofcoalandgasaresud-denly erupted from the coal rocks in a very short time during min-ing. It would trigger major gas explosion easily and cause heavycasualties and property losses. The most significant outburst inChina happened on August 8th, 1975 in the first mine of SanhuiDam in Chongqing. It gushed 1,400,000 m
