Roentgen sign associated with an aberrant vessel connecting right main pulmonary artery to left atrium.

The authors have diagnosed preoperatively an aberrant artery connecting the right main pulmonary artery to the left atrium. Eleven other cases are reviewed. The only consistent findings were cyanosis, clubbing, and a rounded density adjacent to the left atrium that was visible on the chest radiographs of all 12 patients. This syndrome is probably specific. Its recognition is important because complete cure can be obtained by ligation or division of the aberrant vessel; without surgery, fatal complications including cerebral embolism may occur.
