Underwater Sensor System 2009 Field Trial Report

Abstract : This document provides an overview of the summer 2009 field trial conducted at Gascoyne Inlet on Devon Island, Nunavut. The trial was carried out as part of the effort related to the Northern Watch Technology Demonstration Project. This report describes the progress against the objectives of the field trial and is intended to serve as a reference to the Gascoyne Inlet field camp, which was greatly improved and extended during this field trial. The main scientific objective of the trial was the deployment of two underwater sensing arrays in Barrow Strait. The deployment was successfully completed and sizeable quantities of valuable data were collected. Unfortunately, the underwater arrays suffered a mechanical issue that allowed water to penetrate and render them inoperable after a period of time. It had been the intention that these arrays would be reactivated in future field trials at this location.
