DEVELOPMENT OF LANE CHANGE AID SYSTEM

We have developed a lane change aid system, which detects vehicles behind in adjacent lanes with a multi-line CCD sensor, shows the driver the information of vehicle location with a head-up display (HUD), and warns him/her if necessary. By comparing the brightness on CCD, the distance distribution along some CCD lines is measured. To ensure the effective vehicle detection on public roads, we have developed a detection algorithm, which distinguishes vehicles from guardrails by observing the patterns of measured distances. We will show the system configuration, the detection logic, and the system evaluation on public roads. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
