MEASUREMENTS AND CALCULATIONS OF SHIP RESISTANCE IN WAVES. PART II

Abstract : The constant-velocity and constant-thrust methods of towing in waves were compared. The constant-velocity method was used to test the effect of wave height on the added resistance. The horizontal component of the dynamic force, caused by the orbital velocities of water particles in waves, was measured for a number of wave lengths and heights at zero forward velocity. The added resistance coefficients are tabulated for a number of ship velocities. These coefficients can be used for calculation of added wave resistance in various sea states.
