Automation of finite element aided design of brushless pm motors

The paper describes a new way in which the finite-element (FE) aided design optimization of brushless PM motors can be automated. In order to allow for the use of a commercial FE package, the voltage driven problem has been transformed into a current driven formulation. This has lead to a system of non-linear simultaneous equations, which are generated from the FE solutions and solved outside the FE package. Significant savings of computing times may be achieved.
