Design Issues and Experimental Database Architecture for Telecommunications

Databases in telecommunications have become an important research area in recent years. The persistent and temporal information needed in operations and management of the telecommunication networks and services will be in databases. The current IN Recommendations of ITUT (Q.1200 Series) imply that real-time transaction processing capabilities should be provided. We examine the design issues of real-time transaction processing in database architectures that can be integrated into any teleoperator’s service provision architecture. We also introduce an experimental database architecture which is a real-time distributed object-oriented database architecture. The architecture can be used to implement the Service Control Function in the Intelligent Network and other database services needed in telecommunications.
