E-mail: sheilanribeiro@hotmail.com The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is used to release growth factors in high concentrations to achieve a repair in tissue damage. The objective was to evaluate macroscopically and histologically using PRP associated with wet bandages on wounds caused by burns, produced experimentally in rabbits. Two total thick burns of 2.5cm in diameter were produced in the dorsal region, in 16 young rabbits. The left antimere served as control (CG), receiving distilled water, and the right antimere (TG) PRP. The injuries were analyzed at three, seven, 14 and 21 days postoperatively (PO). No significant differences were found macroscopically and histologically for three, seven and 21 days postoperatively, when compared GC and GT. Only at 14 days PO, it was observed increased presence of collagen fibers in the GT. There was no significant difference at the level of 5%, in the contraction of wounds when compared between CG and TG on the same period of time. Concluding that the PRP associated with wet bandage on total thick burns produced experimentally in rabbits, did not help in the healing process.
