Distortion-aware Panoramic Image Resizing Using Seam Carving

We propose a solution for scattered information and distorted contours found in panorama images. Our weight map, mixed with the original forward energy obtained through dynamic programming, is used to produce a resized image with less panoramic distortion. The proposed method retargets a given image into the standard ratio of 16:9 for widescreen displays without losing aesthetic quality of the scene, as reported by human raters. The method could be applied to various situations where optical distortion and dispersed visual information are unavoidable.
