Optimal Choice of Excitation System Parameters for Machines Connected to a Large Power System

Abstract This paper presents a novel methodology for the optimal choice of the parameters of the excitation system of large generators, which are planned to be introduced into existing power grids, taxing into account the conflicting requirements for the dynamic and transient stabilities of the system. Results of a case study pertaining to an addition of new generation of 520 MVA into a grid having a capacity of 10000MW are discussed.
