SHOULD LARGER AND HEAVIER TRUCKS BE ALLOWED ON AUSTRALIAN ROADS

How large can road vehicles get before their size and environmental effects limit their community's acceptability? How heavy can commercial vehicles get before they cause untenable pavement and bridge damage? These two questions are fundamental to the setting of dimension and weight limits for road vehicles. The authors of this paper outline the present study being carried out by the National Association of Australian State Road Authorities (NAASRA) to review vehicle weight and dimension limit regulations for Australia.
