WHERE WILL THE HYDROGEN COME FROM? SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS AND HYDROGEN SUPPLY. IN: THE HYDROGEN ENERGY TRANSITION: MOVING TOWARD THE POST PETROLEUM AGE IN TRANSPORTATION

This chapter discusses how the evolution of a future hydrogen supply could be affecteds by the complex factors that detrmine the best production and distribution pathways for a given location and level of demand. Also discussed are several near term and long term options for hydrogen supply, and the factors influencing the design of a hydrogen energy system. Several key system level questions for hydrogen supply are also addressed. The paper's goal is to stimulate discussion about how to develop the hydrogen supply to best realize hydrogen's potential benefits at an acceptable cost.
