Modelling of a Solar Thermal Reactor for Hydrogen Generation

The transient thermal behavior of a solar thermal reactor for hydrogen generation has been modeled using Modelica/Dymola. The model is used to predict temperatures and reaction rates inside the reactor which is operated alternating between two temperature levels. The purpose of this reactor is the production of hydrogen as a future carbon free fuel using exclusively regenerative energy resources. First results are promising and the model may be used to explain experimental observations from the operation as well as for theoretical studies.
