Computer-Assisted Naval Applications of Holography.

Abstract : The work being reported on in this phase of a continuing study is based upon previous work which has investigated the potential in naval operational applications of several possible holographic imaging systems, especially when coupled with digital computers (CCCC Reports Nos. 132-2, 132-3, and 132-4). This report covers an investigation into the nature and quality of visible images reconstructed from sampled hologram data. A generalized theory of sampled holography was developed, applicable to stationary sampling arrays of sensors or single sensor scanning. The generalized theory was applied to ordered, non-ordered and random sampling formats. Some laboratory verification of the findings was obtained, using electro-optic and moire techniques. The effects of non-uniformity in the sensor elements and their post-detection networks were also investigated. (Author)
