Self-Starting Performance Numerical Analysis of Fixed-Pitch Vertical Axis Hydro-Turbine

Three-blade fixed-pitch vertical axis hydro-turbine static starting torque and loads are studied by using software ANSYS CFX and theoretical derivation method. Moreover, based on solving fluid rigid motion equation, turbine self-starting transient numerical simulation is carried out by using CFX CEL language. Loads of turbine, time of self-starting and angular velocity stability after self-starting are studied at the different azimuth angle of turbine. The results show that the hydro-turbine has the best self-starting performance when one of blades is at the location of azimuth angles 10°.
