Polypoid Lesions of the Colon and Rectum with Special Reference to Early Detection of Polypoid Cancer

Summary Early cancer in which cancer cells are confined to the mucosa and submucosa was seen in 12 (80°/o) of 15 patients with polypoid cancer of the large bowel operated on. More than half of the 12 early cancers appeared a benign polyp on both X-ray and endoscopic examinations. However, all the 12 lesions were correctly diagnosed by adding a direct vision biopsy to those two diagnostic methods.
