A Price War for Higher Education

for Higher Education? By Kenneth M. Deitch There is a distinct possibility that American higher education will experience a price war in the coming period. Indeed the recent growth in awards of financial aid based on "merit" may plausibly be viewed as either its precursor, or its prologue, or its early major phase. Why may a significant price war emerge? How would it be conducted? What would be its likely course and likely consequences? Is a price war per se undesirable? If it is judged undesirable, what could be done to prevent, or contain, or end it?
