Wireless power and data transfer for electric vehicle charging at car parks

A system layout for wireless charging at car parks is proposed. Communication signaling at a few 100 kHz is added to inductive power transfer (IPT) of some kW. For the power transfer a lumped parameter circuit is presented that is coupled to a three dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). This model is used for the design of couplers and appropriate resonant circuits. Likewise, the data transfer is modeled. Design principles are verified at laboratory scale. First results show the design facilities a layout with a largely reduced need for power electronics. Results also show, that a robust data transfer requires separate primary coil pads for data transfer.
