On Transferring Microelectronics Technology Internationally: Brazils Case

Abstract As the rapid growth of applications of microelectronics in every sector of society has brought that industry to a strategic position, international competition has increased dramatically. Many developing countries are seeking to obtain a clear understanding of the process for transferring this technology internationally. This paper presents a systematic set of considerations for transferring technologies internationally. Next factors affecting the development of microelectronics in a country are given. The results should be useful to other countries besides Brazil. Finally, the paper defines the present state of the microelectronics industry in Brazil, analyzes the industry’s development using the first two parts of the paper, and suggests steps that should be taken for effective development of the industry.
