MZI‐SOA‐based 2R regeneration of OCDMA signals with multiaccess interference noise

In this work, we present 2R regeneration of coherent optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) signals with distortion provoked by multiple access interference. The regeneration scheme is based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer exploiting cross phase modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers. Experimental regeneration of an 8 Chip 10 Gb/s OCDMA signal is demonstrated with improvements in the required optical signal-to-noise ratio and elimination of bit error rate floor. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
