Abstract : The RAPPID project (Responsible Agents for Product-Process Integrated Design) is developing agent based software tools and methods for using market place dynamics among members of a distributed design team to coordinate set-based design of a discrete manufactured product. This report begins with an overview of the RAPPID vision, in which the components being designed (represented by their designers) buy and sell the characteristics they wish to assume. It describes the entities that interact in the market economy and outlines the market protocols through which trades are made.
