Implementation and validation of a 2.5D intelligent ray launching algorithm for large urban scenarios

This paper presents a modified ray launching model based on the Intelligent Ray Launching Algorithm (IRLA) that was previously proposed. IRLA is a 3D discrete ray launching model which can be used to predict urban and indoor coverage. However, the IRLA model suffers from high memory usage in large urban scenario with fine resolution. The modified propagation model requires less memory and runs faster than the IRLA model. The simulations are carried out and the performance is investigated. Experiments show that the modified propagation algorithm performs better than the IRLA model in large urban scenarios.
