Balancing of linkages under the combined action of inertia and external forces

Abstract This study is based on the assumption that the fluctuations of dynamic forces rather than their magnitudes are essential for the machine unbalance. When external forces are under consideration, this shift of concept leads to fundamental changes of the balancing criteria and of some of the commonly used constraints. Formal changes affect also the Theory of Isomomental Ellipses[3], and the latter is properly generalised. Numerical examples indicates for substantial differences in the assessment of balancing by the proposed criteria if compared with the existing practice.
