Longitudinal load analysis of transmission line systems

A review of an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) project to develop design aids for the calculation of longitudinal forces and displacements in transmission line structures caused by broken wire or differential ice disturbances is presented. Emphasis is given to results from an equilibrium solution based on a nonlinear stiffness analysis of the line system in which flexibility of the support structures is considered. An outline of a recommended procedure for design of a line system utilizing aids developed in the course of this work is also presented.
