High tracking accuracy of software based RDC using various excitation signals

The rotor shaft angular position accuracy of a motor is an important parameter in most of the modern control applications like avionics, control and computer applications. Resolver is an angular position transducer that provides analog form of angular position and Resolver to Digital Converters (RDCs) are always needed to recover the analog angular position in digital form. This paper provides the mathematical design and implementation of RDC using modified Angle Tracking Observer (ATO) algorithm in MATLAB® SIMULINK®. The angular tracking performance of the proposed RDC system is verified through various excitation signals at different speeds. The results show that the proposed RDC system provides better angular tracking performance to pulse excitation. This RDC reduces the hardware cost, size and gives high angular accuracy.
