CONCEPT FOR INSTALLMENT OF CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS IN MINIBUSES. REPRINT FROM MASTER THESIS AT LINKOEPINGS UNIVERSITET IN COOPERATION WITH THE SWEDISH NATIONAL ROAD AND TRANSPORT RESEARCH INSTITUTE (VTI)

The report examines the safety of small children who are being transported to day-care centers by minibus. The lack of adequate protection in terms of crash safety is recognized. A rearward facing child restraint system that would provide adequate protection is both too time consuming to secure and would also take too much of the available space in the vehicle. The paper presents a newly developed anchorage system design that, in combination with a small stand, replaces the bus seat without compromising the space and mobility of other passengers. The tests and evaluation of the system showed that the system could provide small children with the highest possible level of safety.
