Substituting Information for Energy in Agriculture

ABSTRACT MOST agricultural energy is used for management. Microcomputers offer expanded opportunities for efficiently handling and processing more management information. Management efficiency improvement in ex-isting agricultural operations and processes offers poten-tial energy savings of about 15 percent. New information-intensive management processes might allow 50 percent or greater energy savings. The principles underlying information-for-energy substitutions are presented along with examples of their application.
