A Study of Optical Flow in Peripheral Vision Area While Vehicle Cornering

This research focuses on the ecological study on the human visual perception to develop the vehicle control system in the cornering. We express the human visual information using the gaze direction and the optical flow. We suggest acquiring the optical flow on the peripheral vision area by using image processing. In this paper, we explain the trend of the optical flow in the peripheral vision area. First, we simulated the optical flow on the peripheral vision area in vehicle cornering. For the result, the optical flow in the peripheral vision area radiates outward from the gaze center. Next, we perform the real driving experiment. For the result, the optical flow in the peripheral vision area radiates outward from the gaze center in the real driving data.
