Deterioration Model of Longitudinal Road Unevenness Based on its Power Spectral Density Indices

ABSTRACT This paper concerns the road profile deterioration. The road indices based on elevation PSD defined in ISO 8608 and EN 13036-5 standards are evaluated and compared with the International Roughness Index. The usefulness of road description in two wavelength bands (long/short) has been shown. The dependence of deterioration of asphalt/cement concrete pavements on traffic time and influence of initial levels of indices on road deterioration are examined. The deterioration rates statistics were estimated from hundreds of in-service road profiles. The differences in road residual life for considered road indices are calculated. The simulation results are compared with those obtained from references.
