Determinants of Computer-Mediated Communication Success among Knowledge Workers in Saudi Arabia

Information manipulation, interpretation, communication, and use constitute major tasks of knowledge workers. Increasing number of business organizations in developing countries rely on Computer-Mediated Communication (CMCS) to enhance management communication. This study is a pioneering attempt to measure the success level of CMCS and the factors that influence CMCS in the context of a developing country, namely Saudi Arabia. Data are collected from 102 Saudi knowledge workers who have been using CMCS for an extended period of time. The results indicate that knowledge worker's computer experience, typing skills, the number of communication partners, and perceived voluntariness affect significantly knowledge worker's CMCS satisfaction, perceived productivity, and use. An assessment of the relative importance of these factors reveals that computer experience, number of communication partners, and perceived voluntariness are the most important determinants.
