Correlations between the Stanford-Binet, Fourth Edition and the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children for a Preschool Sample

The Stanford-Binet, Fourth Edition has potential utility for assessing the cognitive functioning of preschool children; however, construct validation is a necessary precursor to widespread application. In the current study, the Stanford-Binet IV and the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children were administered to 36 preschool children to estimate the association of scores. No significant mean difference was obtained between the two composite scores. Correlations between conceptually similar factors were higher than those between dissimilar factors. These results suggest that the Stanford-Binet IV is a valid measure of intellectual functioning for preschool children.
