Abstract A power plant boiler simulator, which aims at process operation training for operators to prevent incidents, is introduced in this paper. The well-tuned mathematical model based on the real operational data of a boiler at the University of Alberta Power Plant, along with the embedded incident models has not only been used for boiler startup and shutdown training, but also for incident handling training as well. When linked with INTEMOR, a generalized intelligent industrial real-time on-line process information system developed by Canada-China United Center for Intelligent Control Engineering (CCUC) at the University of Alberta, the power plant boiler simulator is also used for training operator for incident prediction and prevention. Training of DCS control system configuration for process control engineers is also available by taking advantage of fully flexible design and implementation of the control system within the simulator.
