Fixed Standalone PV Systems for Disaster Relief and Remote Areas

This chapter deals with fixed standalone photovoltaic systems for disaster-affected areas and remote areas. It discusses solar-powered pumping systems, types of solar pumps and design methods. The application of solar power pumps in irrigation, livestock watering, and solar-powered water purification using direct and indirect methods is also discussed. The case study discussed in this chapter looks at fixed standalone PV systems for mobile communications, benefits of solar-powered base stations and its applications for disasters and remote areas. It also discusses a specialized case of India’s base stations that are implemented in remote areas to provide connectivity, save money, and reduce pollution.
