Predictive Consumption Models for Electropneumatic Production Systems

A predictive consumption model suitable for industrial type pneumatic production systems is presented in this paper. The model is developed in MATLAB Simulink and interfaced with a programmable logic controller via an OPC server. Theoretical model development and validation are discussed with particular emphasis on applicability to industrial systems. Currently, consumers such as linear cylinders, semirotary actuators, grippers, open pipes, nozzles, and leakage can be accounted for with the model. The proposed modeling approach will enable a greater understanding of the dynamic demand for compressed air by production machines and lines.
