A Novel Column Matrix Selection Scheme for VLC System With Mobile Phone Camera

In this letter, a novel column matrix selection scheme based on energy diffusion (ED) of LED is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for visible light communication using mobile phone camera. The column matrix selection scheme based on ED of LED can avoid the blooming effect and improve the contrast ratio between bright and black stripes. In addition, for the proposed scheme, the performances under different distances and illuminances are evaluated. Experiment results demonstrate that, under the illuminance of 700 lux, the bit error rate can be improved from <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$2.5 \times 10^{-4}$ </tex-math></inline-formula> to <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$8.82 \times 10^{-6}$ </tex-math></inline-formula> at 30-cm distance using the column matrix selection scheme based on ED of LED, compared with the conventional scheme.
