Study on a Cluster System for Remote Visualization of Large-Scale CFD Results

Testbed PC cluster is instal led to evaluate the paral lel and remote visual izat ion of large-scale computational results produced by the supercomputer in the remote site. Three commercial and open-source software are employed in this study. I t is observed that the part i t ioned f i le format such as V T K mult i-block is desirable for reading large-scale data. High scalabil i ty more than 80 % is obtained by using the paral lel rendering and image compositing. I n spite of the insuff ic ient network speed, interactive performance for visual izat ion is satisfactory when the PC-over-IP technology is implemented. This testbed cluster w i t h 80GB system memory can handle the numerical resul t up to 0.7 b i l l ion nodes. The knowledge obtained here w i l l be ut i l ized for the post'processing system of the large-scale computations done by remotely connected supercomputers.
