Further discussion of “The annual rate of independent events for the analysis of extreme wind speed” by Alessio Torrielli, Maria Pia Repetto & Giovanni Solari

Abstract The paper by Torrielli, Repetto and Solari investigates an issue of some importance: that the rate parameter relating an extreme distribution to its parent is not a constant when the parent is serially correlated. Subsequent discussion and response contained areas of agreement, areas of disagreement and some unresolved areas. This contribution to the discussion resolves outstanding issues by extending the wind simulations to very long periods, up to 5 million years, to reveal the asymptotic behaviour.
